The Master Shortie Experience

Ok, so last night, I was notified that Master Shortie, who happens to be a friend of mine, was going to be in Reading for a gig. Now, this is my uni town and for once I'm ABOUT. (which is rarely ever the case, but WAHEY! I'm sensing blog-worthy experiences to be had!)
So... *PING!* (BB)...
I get the invite.

Master Shortie has just finished his nationwide tour, supporting Basement Jaxx, playing some of the best venues across the country. He's now touring with The King Blues, playing at universities and other venues around the south of England. Reading was on the list.

Tonight, I was picked up by the man himself, and we drove down to my uni to commence with gig activities. (The guy was actually on time, for once - I was banking on the 'late' time to get ready; I had to finish my make up in the backstage bathrooms, trust me *panics and empties make-up bag into clutch bag*).

Arm of MS (he was 45 mins late onstage... yuhh....)
MS performed with his guitarist, and his drummer, Sweetsticks. Cool company. The tour manager and engineer had me cracking up, backstage. They make a good team; you can tell they have fun out on the road together.

It was a tough crowd. At first, no one really seemed too impressed by the dude on stage in faded skinnies, mickey mouse tshirt, leather jacket and a cravat. But I have to give credit where it's due. MS has an amazing stage presence, his energy is contagious, and being an all-round good performer, he won the crowd over. High five to you, dude.

Watch out for his singles, Rope Chain, Dead End and Dance Like a White Boy, and later this year, his debut album ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
We were meant to join my friend's birthday party out in Reading town, but true to style, always on the go, I had to be dropped off home, abandoned, because he was getting calls to say Asher Roth was waiting to meet him in Movida. He's back in Swindon tomorrow for the Radio1 Big Weekender event, and flying to New York on Sunday morning to re-record the video for Dead End. Oh, the life and times of a star in the making...

[The night also involved: knife wielding; screaming matches (in jest); drink & cheese theft; chatting up of random crowd-members; the (almost) exposure of VERY drunk girl (who was in my halls last year LOL); driving the wrong way up my one-way street; images of pornographic content that I did NOT want to see (mine eyes!!) on phones; pain-killers; spilt drinks (everywhere); ice missiles; broken drumsticks; lost keys; vomitting guitarist (other band); a LOT of laughing; general fun init]
SexClub Heaven gangsign. WHUUUUT! :)
Good luck MS, I hope you go far.

Yeezy on South Park

I, for one, actually love Yeezy. He is easily recognisable as a huge part of the music industry (commerical and the urr-ban) and through his producing as well as his own records he has somewhat altered the sound of youth today. He is a bighead. But so what? It's entertaining!

Plus his blog is SICK!

Taken from the BBC news entertainment article on Kanye West's comments following his featuring on South Park:
Rapper Kanye West has said that he was "murdered" in an episode of animated US show South Park, but found his negative portrayal "pretty funny".

West, who was shown as out-of-touch and self-centred in Wednesday night's edition, wrote on his blog that he had been "working on my ego".

He added that he was sure the South Park writers were "nice people in real life", and said it was an honour to be captured by the show's animators.

Yeh... SURE!

We all know that, secretly, Kanye West is PISSED he got slated!

He posted his reaction to the episode on his blog - [click here to view]

But, I don't believe him. He's more pissed than he makes himself out to be. Trust me.

Although... it IS nice to see that he realises that:
"AS LONG AS PEOPLE THINK I ACT LIKE A BITCH THIS TYPE OF SHIT WILL HAPPEN TO ME. I GOT A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE I'M NOT ACTUALLY A HUGE DOUCHE".
It probably is time to stop acting like such a twat, but we know that some twats are successful (e.g. Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsey, Alan Sugar [SAS -lol]) because of their intelligence.

It seems to be all relative when you're famous.

Bah! Well, Yeezy, I still love you :)

Beyonce - the centre of the universe

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Beyonce is getting more and more vain in her videos? I realise that she doesn't direct or think of all the concepts for her videos, but the 'Halo' video is boring, and literally makes me think I don't want to look at her face anymore. The 'dance' scenes were crap as well (she can't touch Mya or Jennifer Lopez when it comes to the technicalities and perfection of dancing).

[Good call getting a bearded Michael Ealy to co-star though :)]

These days I'm starting to prefer Keri Hilson, which is saying a LOT because I don't 100% like her (there's something about "Miss Keri Baby" I can't quite put my finger on - she looks a bit sly, like she'd steal your boyfriend ha haa!).

I thought Kid Cudi was british...

... and this is why...

a) the whole sound. sounds a little bit bassline-y

b) the woman at the beginning and end of his video is British, with a lovely Londres accent. (yes, I realise that Kid Cudi speaks with an american accent, but I didn't ever properly watch the video until today and overlooked this [essential] fact...)

I can't be the only one who thought he was British...

The Wire - series 1 & 2

Which is the better theme tune?

I SO prefer the first one...

When I first started watching the second series, I have to admit, the song disappointed me...
It's nice hearing the series one song again on BBC2... :)

USHER v JAMIE FOXX?

so...

JAMIE FOXX?

- or -

USHER?

tough call man. i heard the Usher version last August and thought it was ok, but not quite album quality. Obviously Jamie Foxx has now released it. The video's funny. I LOVE IT. Taraji P. Henson was the perfect choice of actress.

But i think I prefer Usher's version...

what think you??

It's been out for a while, it's hardly exclusive, but it's so catchy!
Master Shortie's a nice guy too, hard worker, dedicated and has so much energy. I hope he goes far.

song of the week 24th nov...

Santana ft Lauryn Hill & Cee Lo - Do You Like the Way

Rediscovered this in my iPod a few months ago. This song never bores me. Santana's guitar, Lauryn's voice and Cee Lo's SOUL makes this song sooooo good.
Enjoy people.

WHY WOULD NAS DO THIS?

WHAT IN BLOG'S NAME IS THIS?

1. Nas is one of the most respected figures in hip hop, contemporary and of all time. period.
2. Fila is crap. Other than their current trainers they haven't done much that is remotely interesting.
3. The jumper is boring and... boring. It makes him look boring. And depressed i think...

Why did he do this??!

It angers me somewhat.

Thoughts please?
